Learn More About Me!
I am a current fourth year majoring in Psychology at Whittier College. Throughout my four years at Whittier I have been working to develop and hone in skills such as communication, organization, and leadership. I aspire to one day work with kids in either a Psychological or Social Work setting. To help me prepare for my career I have taken various courses relevant to what I want to do in the future including Introduction to Social Work, Child Psychology, and Life Span Development. To be able to apply what I have learned thus far I was a Camp Counselor during Summer 2022 where I worked with children from first through fourth grade and I am currently interning at the Broadoaks School of Whittier College, a Pre-K through Eight school, where I work with the sixth grade class.
For my last year at Whittier I have taken on more leadership positions. I am a Co-President to the school’s Transgender, Other-Identified, Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Allies for Diversity where I organize club meetings centered around education and collaborate with other officers in making the club a safe space and engaging by working together to organize events. I am the Diversity Council’s Internal Chair where I organize meetings and provided leadership support to other club that focus on social justice, acceptance, and respect of diverse identities. I am a part of the Psi Chi Honor Society and I am this chapter’s social media coordinator where I help advertise any major meetings or events held. And I have taken on being the Lavender Graduation Committee’s Co-Chair in which I helped lead and organize meetings to then put on a wonderful Cultural Graduation for the Lavender Community.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion have been a major focus for me as I have been developing my career, interests, and leadership positions. As some one who is a part of more than one marginalized community, being assigned female at birth, Mexican-American, and queer, I want to do what I can to represent not only the communities I am a part of but every community that is underrepresented.
